U14 A Championship

Monaleen 7-5 Bruff 3-3

Our U14s recorded a great win against Bruff on Tue 4th , and continue to improve with every game. An early goal from an Aisling Doyle free followed by scores from Caoimhe Lyons & Claire Kelly gave Monaleen a lead they never looked like conceding. In the second half Bruff came much more into the game  scoring 3-3, but two goals late  by full forward Aisling Kennedy secured a well deserved win. We now face NCW in the ¼ final on Tues 11th 6.30pm at the clubhouse pitch.

U12A Championship

Monaleen 4-0 v Ahane 2-2

The U12’s played their second match of the championship at home to Ahane on Thursday night. Monaleen started brightly dominating the first 10 minutes but despite playing the game in the Ahane half during this period the game remained scoreless. Ahane then got a goal against the run of play and followed up with a point to lead by 1-1 at half time.  Now under pressure to get a score the Monaleen girls responded with a welcome goal from Aine Doyle followed by a second from Aisling Kennedy. Ahane tried to get back in the game and Fiona Fitzpatrick in the Monaleen goal made some fine saves to ensure that Monaleen held out to win by 4 points.

HURLING

Our U13 hurlers continued their league campaign with a hard fought draw against Mungret. Two goals from Tomas Flaherty gave us an early lead and strong play from James Halas, Conor Bermingham and David Moloney helped withstand the Mungret fightback. This was a real battling performance from a young team.

Under 12 hurling Finals UL
The finals day of the U12 League was held on Saturday 8th at UL. and Monaleen's A and B teams were in action. The A team had a competitive game against Bruff, putting up a good display. They allowed Bruff build up a lead as Monaleen took lomger to settle into the game, but the comeback was in full swing when time ran out.
Team : Brian O'Donnell, Lee McAllister, Harry Gleeson, David Leahy, Killian Toland,, Paul Power, Niall Connaughton, David Crampton, Maurice Leahy, Conor Coughlan, Cathal McCarthy, Jack Canny, Sean O'Kane, William Campbell.
Monaleen B 1-4 Na Piarsaigh 2-1. The B team is comprised of all the Under 11 players and they rounded off a fine league campaign with a one point win over Na Piarsaigh. This team has the knack of winning tight games, as this was the third league game in a row won by just a single point. Eoin Twomey has his first game in goals and performed excellently, making one or two good saves and delivering clever puck outs. Full backs Morgan Connolly, Conor Coombs and John Toland were commanding, helped by a combative half back pairing of David McMahon and Jason Aylward. As changes were made Caolan Dignam also made a telling contribution at half back with a couple of good blocks. James Flannery at full forward almost opened the scoring with a goal, but the woodwork denied Monaleen the lead. Caolan Madden scored a fine point from a difficult angle on the left to start the scoring, and Paul Ross added a second from a 65. Na Piarsaigh had their chacnes too and picked off a good point after a period of pressure. The key move of the game was when Jason Aylward marched forward and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the net to give Monaleen a 4 point lead. However, in a tightly contested game, Na Piarsaigh managed to respond with a goal of their own. At half time Monaleen led 1-2 to 1-1. Soon after the restart, Na Piarsaigh sent a high ball into the goal area which ended up in the back of the net. Monaleen showed great heart with Niall McGrath and Conor Deegan winning the 50-50 battles for possession, Jack Considine, Darragh Coleman and Evan Costelloe also tested the Na Piarsaigh defence, but Caolan Madden's accuracy from distance in picking off scores proved crucial as Monaleen hit three unanswered points to get the win on a final score of 1-5 to 2-1.
Team : Eoin Twomey, Morgan Connolly, Conor Coombs, John Toland, David McMahon, Jason Aylward, Caolan Dignam, Conor Deegan, Paul Ross, Caolan Madden, Niall McGrath, Darragh Colmean, Jack Considine, James Flannery, Evan Costelloe.
Medals were awarded by Limerick inter-county star, James Ryan. Monaleen wish to thank James for taking the time to inspire the players, and the organisers Noel Hartigan, Ger Downes and team, who have done a great job in running this league all season.
Coaches Noel Madden and Dave Hennessy also did a brilliant job with this group of players last winter and during the league, and the boys benefited hugely from their knowledge of the game and the time they put in to pass it on.

U8 Hurling Blitz: There was a great turnout of our U8’s Hurler’s for the latest GO games blitz held in St Patrick’s. This group of young budding hurlers are making massive strides in mastering the skills of hurling and their dedication is certainly paying off. On the night we split the group into three teams and all three teams went unbeaten in all nine games played. Thanks to Host’s St Patrick’s, Murroe/Boher and Claughaun for providing excellent opposition on the night.

Our Intermediate Hurlers bowed out of the championship in the County QF Replay on Saturday evening last to Dromin Athlaca on a 2:10 Monaleen 1:08 scoreline. A poor first half performance saw us trailing by 2 points at the break. We upped the performance in the second half a goal from Ger Collins put us in the lead. Athlacca hit back to lead by 2 going into injury time. We pushed everyone forward and a last gasp goal effort from Collins saw the ball trickle wide. A quick puck out with our defence caught out up the field leaving no one at home to prevent a goal for Athlacca. It was a tough way to finish the campaign but there were a number of positives out of the year. The performances of the young newcomers Darragh Madden, Donal O Keefe, David Mulhall, Luke Murphy and Simon Griffen leave the club with a healthy future. Team: Fergal Kenzie, Darragh Madden, Damien Cosgrave, Finbarr Nash, Eamonn O Connell, John Bartley, Donal O Keefe, Peter Russell (0:6), David Mulhall, Mike Doyle, Dan Foley, Shane Mullane (0:1), Ger Collins(1:01), Brian Geary, Luke Murphy. Subs Mark Cummins fro O Connell, Simon Griffen for Doyle, Niall Macken for Murphy, John O Dwyer for Mulhall.

Minor Hurling. Good luck to the Minor Hurling team who take on Ahane Monday evening 6.15pm in Mungret. All support greatly welcome.
