Camogie U16B Championship Final : Monaleen 9-3 Bruff 5-6

The U16 plate final was held in Ballybricken on Saturday 29th Sept. Monaleen, although favorites to win, continued to suffer from the injuries and illness that have continued throughout this championship. The first half was full of excitement with each Monaleen score being matched by Bruff. However Monaleen were never behind and went in at half time 3 points clear. Emer Nelson, Lesley Ann Ivory and Sinead Quinn in the Monaleen defense excelled in the second half and the Bruff scoring rate slowed allowing Monaleen to pull away. The performance of the day and perhaps the season came from Caoimhe Lyons who from left corner & centre forward scored an amazing 9-1, all of which came from play. As Bruff tired in the second half they had no answer to Caoimhe’s aggressive attacking display and Monaleen finished comfortable 3 goal winners.

Monaleen captain Niamh Doyle accepted the trophy on behalf of a group many of whom have played in 5 finals over the last 4 years at U14 & U16, winning 3. Panel: Claire Kelly; Sinead Quinn; Emer Nelson; Les Ivors, Laura Enright; Niamh Doyle(0-2); Nicole Sheehan; Ciara Wiley; Eileen Russell; Sinead Quinn; Laura Griffin; Aisling Doyle; Caoimhe Lyons (9-1) Grainne Fullen; Megan O Mara; Caroline Crotty; Laura Phelan.

Camogie U12 A Final
Thursday 27th Sept, the U12 Camogie team played Newcastle West in the final of the A division. It was evident from the minute the game begun that this was going to be a tough match. Monaleen succeed in scoring a goal in the first 4 minutes. It was brilliantly scored by Taine Amadeo. Newcastle West put up a tough fight scoring 2 goals and a point. Monaleen continued on and Aine Doyle scored a final point. Unfortunately, Monaleen did not succeed in winning the match; however it was a tremendous achievement to get to the A final.

Camogie U10s Blitz Sat 29th.
Croagh Camogie Club kindly hosted the latest U10 Blitz in dry conditions. Monaleen played Adare and Newcastlewest. Games were 9 a side with 10 minutes a half. As we had 14 players it was not possible to play all players all the time. In the first game Monaleen went behind early but were the better team for the rest of the game without scoring. In the second match against NCW, Aoife Nelligan scored against the run of play but NCW piled on the pressure in the second half and were deserved winners. Strong performers were Aoife Nelligan, Roisin D'Arcy and Juliet Pinson. Our players understand the importance of practising outside of just matches and training to improve their skills.  Players: Roisin D'Arcy, Bailey McNamara, Mia O'Halloran, Laura Burke, Niamh Moloney, Emma Rae, Aoife Nelligan, Aoife Doyle, Aine Gahan, Susan D'Arcy, Lucy D'Arcy, Juliette Pinson, Eimar Morgan, Sarah Sheehan.

Under 10s Football
Mungret hosted a Gaelic football blitz on Sunday 7th October at midday. Monaleen and Mallow [2 teams] were invited to participate. Thanks to all the boys who turned up and to their parents for supporting. Our first match was against Mallow's B team which Monaleen won convincingly by a scoreline of 5-4 to 0-1. There were strong performances from Nicky O'Dwyer, Donnacha O'Dálaigh, Eoin O'Driscoll, Harry Doyle, Sean O'Shea and Gavin Hayes. By the time we played our second match of the day, our battled hardened UL Bohs reinforcements had arrived from training and their strength in defence [Paul Brennan, Ryan Power] combined with great goals from Xavier Henry and Ronan Lyons sealed a great win on a scoreline of 3-6 to 0-3. All the hard work done at training was paying off with great passing, blocking and scoring entertaining a near capacity crowd. Our final match was against Mallow's A team and this proved a bit harder. We were behind at half time but encouraging words from 2 young and upcoming Monaleen coaches as well as a personal message from Jose-Maria Olazabal encouraged the boys to push on in the second half. Fine displays from Lachlann McHale, Christopher Nwenko, Luca Grimes, Paul O'Shea and Donnacha brought us back level early in the second half and then gave us a 3 wins from 3 matches result when the final whistle blew. Well done boys! Our hosts provided excellent refreshments to players, coaches and supporters in the hall afterwards.

Junior A Football County QF Monaleen v Kilteely Dromkeen Sun 14/10/12 @ 2pm in Hospital.

U14 Football County Final. Monaleen 3-6, Kilmallock 2-6.

Monaleen U14 footballers finished a long hard season last Saturday afternoon with a county final football win over Kilmallock, adding to the feile and league wins earlier in the year. A hard fought game from start to finish with Monaleen running into an early lead, a lead that they would not relinquish, running out winners by 3 points in the end. Sean Fitzpatrick in goal was outstanding and produced a match winning display. It was a team display that earned this victory; the full 24-man panel played a huge part during the season, a long hard season that started back last February. There are so many player involved with this group that it is hard to mention individuals.  Competition for a starting place has been intense and injury has been a problem for us all year. There have been so many big games this year; all these players (26 panel players) have contributed a huge part in the different competitions, the culmination of which was in the final games last Saturday.
