U10's Camogie Blitz Effin

Monaleen U10s had their first blitz of the season in Effin on Saturday 27th. Monaleen more than held their own in spite of low numbers due to other commitments.
In this respect a special mention has to be given to the 4 girls from the U8 squad who were drafted in for their first taste of camogie within a match setting: Kim Ivory, Ciara Buckley, Isabelle O'Riordan and Caoimhe Hannigan.

Monaleen came away with a win against Croagh Kilfinny, a drawn match against Effin and narrowly lost out to Blackrock, as tired legs started to take their toll.
Overall a great performance with plenty of promise for the future.

Next Blitz U8s and U10s is scheduled for Saturday 25th May in Newcastlewest.

Team: Susan D'Arcy, Aoife Doyle, Fiona Gleeson, Emilka Kumik, Juliet Pinson, Caoimhe Brady, Laura Brennan, Amy Burke, Caitlin Power, Kim Ivory, Ciara Buckley, Isabelle O'Riordan, Caoimhe Hannigan.

U12's Go Game Blitz Mungret

This was our first U12 Go Game Blitz of 2013 and we were blessed with sunshine for all three matches. We had a low turnout due to communions and some sickness. The 14 girls that played were a credit to themselves and their club. They gave their all and tried their best against Knockaderry, Galbally and Mungret. Galbally won the annual U10 Newcastlewest A division in 2012 (we won the C division) - that was a big test for our girls and they played their hearts out.

Results were mixed but this is non competitive Go Games and results are not recorded. The main thing is that the girls get to play small sided games and improve their skill levels.

Some great performances from Emma Donohoe, Lucy D'Arcy and Caitlin Bonfil. Others who performed well were Kealin Corcoran, Laura Burke, Rachel Murphy and Roisin D'Arcy. All the girls had a great attitude and respected their opponents and the referees throughout.

A big thanks to the parents who had to change plans at short notice and especially to Francesca Kearns Mom who went home to get shinguards as some of the girls couldn't play without shinguards. Also thanks to Mungret for hosting the blitz.

Team: Aine Gahan, Aine Gleeson, Aoife D'Arcy, Bailey McNamara, Caitlin Bonfil, Ciara O'Driscoll, Emma Donohoe, Francesca Kearns, Kealin Corcoran, Laura Burke, Lucy D'Arcy, Rachel Murphy, Roisin D'Arcy, Tara Hogan.

U14's League

Ballybrown 2-4 Monaleen 4-1
Our U14s continued their good recent form by beating Ballybrown in a great game played in perfect conditions. Monaleen started very strong with scores from Claire Kelly (2-1)  and Emma Donohoe (2-0) to open up a commanding half time lead. Ballybrown fought back hard but were unable to get control of the game. Great performances across the team in particular by Maeve Rea and Ellen Magnier  in midfield, and Annie Russell  Anna Burke Shailini Kujur and Susan Fullen in the backs ensured we had a  good winning margin in the end.
Next up Crecora at home on Tue 30th throw in 6.30pm.
Team: Aine Doyle, Susan Fullen, Fiona Fitzpatrick, Shalini Kujur, Anna Burke, Katie Golden, Annie Russell, Tara Hogan,  Sarah Quilligan, Aoife O Driscoll, Claire Kelly, Maeve Rea, Ellen Magnier, Aine Nelligan, Caitlin Bonfil, Sarah Costelloe, Kerry O Donoghue, Emma Donohoe, Ruth Heavey, Keelin Corcoran, Aisling Fitzgerald.

U16’s League

Monaleen U 16 camogie played our final A League group match against competition favourites Crecora on Tue last. Played in good conditions, the match  was highly competitive and played in a very sporting manner and saw Crecora take an early lead by scoring 3 points . However just before half time a great goal by Aine Doyle with assistance from Fiona Fitzpatrick and a great move involving Megan O’Meara and Niamh Holmes led to Caoimhe Lyons scoring a point which saw Monaleen go in at half time leading by a point . Was the biggest upset of the camogie season on the cards? Early second half pressure was repelled through great work by Aisling Kennedy, Emer Nelson, Sinead Quinn, Les Ivory and Shalini Kujur and approaching the last 5 minutes we still led. A goal from Crecora was followed by a point in response from Aisling Doyle and only 2 points separated the teams in the last minute. Monaleen piled on the pressure but a goal from a breakaway by Crecora sealed the win in a great match, on a final score line of 2-04 to 1-02. Congratulations also to Nicole Sheehan in a player of the match performance.
Monaleen now progress to play Newcastle west in the county quarter final.

Well done to Niamh & Aine Doyle who played for Laurel Hill last Friday in the U16 schools county final as they beat Doon by 4-9 to 0-2.
