Monaleen Camogie Representative Players

County U14s - Monaleen were well represented yesterday in Ennis , where 4 girls played on Limerick Camogie teams at a National Camogie tournament, and all did their club proud. The green team had Aisling Doyle at midfield and Caoimhe Lyons at centre forward for their matches against Tipperary , Cork, Galway and Dublin. U10 and U11 Boys Football. The Under 11's and Under 10's combine this year to form the Under 10-and-a-half Community Games Hurling team. To be eligible, players must be born on or after 1st August 2001. The county competition this year is a group of five teams : Monaleen, Regional, Crecora-Patrickswell, Croagh-Kilfinney and St. Kierans. The teams play each other, and the winning team gets to the final, while the second placed and third placed teams contest a semi-final.
The boys came together for their first game on Friday evening (4th May) in Monaleen and were ready for action, but had to defend straight away as Croagh-Kilfinney started very strongly. The opposition dominated the opening exchanges and soon fired in a goal to take the lead. The half-back line of Gavin Hayes, Sean O'Shea and John Toland soon took control and broke down any further attacks, clearing the sliotar down to Monaleen's very dangerous forwards. Paul Ross was causing the Croagh defense all kind of problems with a direct and physical style and soon broke clear of a horde of Croagh defenders to take a couple of nice shots for points which just drifted wide. The momentum of the game was definitely with Monaleen at this stage, with any Croagh attacks being swept up by an assured trio at the back of Niall McGrath in goal, and Conor Carew and Nicky O'Dwyer in the full back line. Eoin O'Driscoll landed a beautiful goal from a position far out on the wing while under pressure. With excellent work-rate and skill coming from Micheál O'Hanrahan and Donncha O'Dalaigh in midfield, the pressure continued to be exerted on the Croagh defence. The two full forwards Paul Brennan and Ryan Power worked well together, and before half time, each scored a goal. With a strong subs bench to choose from, Rian McBrearty, James Flannery and Eoin Twomey came on at half time and gave new vigour to the Monaleen play. Early in the second half the brave and impressive Caolan Madden showed superb stickwork to score Monaleen's fourth goal and soon followed up with another. This despite a nasty cut to the finger acquired in the first half. Super subs David Mullowney, Declan Aylward and Liam Liddane-Dillon came on and Declan helped himself to Monaleen's final goal with a fine pull, fed by a good pass in from Liam, while David's physical presence was put to good use in the half-back line.
