A very busy week for Monaleen Camogie at all ages
On Thursday evening our U16s played Newcastle West at home. These are always tough encounters as both teams would be considered as contenders to win the competition. On the night the Monaleen girls proved to be too strong for our opponents. The final score of 2-25 to 0-11 was a reflection of the fantastic score taking on the night. The performance of Emily O Brien from frees and general play was a real highlight.
Panel: Ellie Madden; Laura Brennan; Abi Houlihan; Juliette Pinson; Amy Kavanagh; Mia O Halloran; Niamh Moloney; Clodagh Power; Charley Drury; Saoirse Fitzgerald; Amy Burke (1-0); Ella Hession (0-8); Aoife Doyle(0-4); Emily O Brien (1-7); Aisling O Driscoll; Emily O Halloran; Aoife Sheehan; Ella McCarthy; Grace Clohessy (0-5).
On Sunday our Junior A team travelled to Galbally. The conditions did not suit our girls as the pitch was heavy and the weather was cold & wet. Despite this, Monaleen started well and got an early lead, 3 points to 1 after 10 minutes. It was a tough game with every ball contested and scores hard to come by but Monaleen maintained and extended the lead and finished winners 2-11 to 1-8.Panel: Aisling Kennedy; Saorise Lane; Grainne Fullen; Caitlin Bonfil; Shalini Kutur; Ellen Regan Magner; Fanie Carmody(0-1); Shannon Power; Laura Hession; Lucy D’Arcy; Aisling Doyle; Aine Doyle (1-2); Ruth Heavy(0-1); Caoimhe Lyons (1-7);Cathy O Toole.
On Sunday afternoon our Junior 12 aside team played Kileedy on the clubhouse pitch. A slow start from our inexperienced team playing into a strong wind and Monaleen trailed 2-7 to 0-1 at half time. Monaleen took some nice in the second half and the game was in the balance until 2 late goals from Kileedy sealed the win for them. Final score Monaleen 1-6 Kileedy 4-9. Panel: Rachel Shinnors, Mia O’ Halloran; Sarah Sheehan; Juliette Pinson; Amy Kavanagh; Clodagh Power; Niamh Moloney; Aoife Nelligan; Aoife Doyle; Ella Hession(0-2); Emily O’ Brien(0-4); Grace Clohessy(1-0); Eimar Morgan.
This was the first occasion that the club played 2 Junior matches on the same day and a big thanks to everyone involved for their efforts.
There were also a number of challenge matches last week with U7 & U9 playing away to Ahane. U8 & U10 played away to Mungret. Our U12 team hosted Clonara Camogie on Tuesday. Great to see so many of our underage girls playing and winning their matches.
