U10 Ballina Tournament - Saturday 5th Oct. 2013

CAMOGIE U-10Monaleen U10s (2003) recorded a great win in the Ballina U10 Tournament on Saturday the 5th October. Six teams from 3 counties provided the entertainment on the sun kissed shores of Lough Derg. Monaleen's first game was a tough encounter against Burgess from North Tipp, however the girls showed their strength following recent challenge matches against both Mungret and Ahane, and finished with three goals from Grace Clohessy, Clodagh Power and Aoife Nelligan to no score from Burgess. Next up, in a somewhat one sided affair, Monaleen took on the Ballina B team, with Ella Hession(2), Emily O'Brien, Aoife Nelligan(2), Aoife Doyle(2) and Mia O'Halloran all recording scores for a final score of 8-0.
In a keenly contested final, Monaleen were up against Ballina A team who had come out top of Cappamore and Ogonnolloe on the other side of the draw. In a tense opening half, Monaleen full back Juliette Pinson battled bravely to keep Ballina from scoring. At the other end, Monaleen eventually broke the deadlock with a goal from Aoife Doyle, followed by another superb goal from Aoife Nelligan. The final whistle blew with Monaleen having maintained a clean sheet for the day.

Many thanks to Ballina for hosting a well organised tournament and splendid hospitality.

U10 County Blitz - Saturday 21st Sept. 2013

CAMOGIE U-10: Monaleen U10s attended the county blitz which was held at Mungret on Sat the 21st. There has been a huge improvement in skill levels over the last number of months and some great talent was shown on the day. Fine performances from Ella Hession, Aoife Doyle and Aoife Nelligan contributed to 2 great wins over Adare and Kileedy. Unfortunately Monaleen were denied a place in the playoffs when they were narrowly defeated by Templeglantine. Many thanks to Mungret St. Pauls for hosting a great day of Camogie.

All Ireland Camogie Finals and Ballyboden Trip - Sunday 15th Sept. 2013

Monaleen made the trip to Dublin for the All Ireland Camogie matches on Sunday the 15th September. As part of the trip we played Ballyboden in a series of challenge games at U10, U12 and U14 levels.

For the U10 match, as we were short a few players, we drafted in 3 of the U12 squad: Roisin D'Arcy, Grace Clohessy and Sarah Sheahan. As it turned out, Ballyboden also had a number of U12 players playing. The ref suggested we play Skills Bonus Points, which is something that the Dublin clubs have been playing this year at U10 level. In Skills Bonus Points you receive bonus points for using certain skills, namely 1 extra point for catching the sliothar cleanly in the air and 1 extra point for lifting and then striking the sliothar in the air.

Ballyboden having the majority of possession for the first half, were hampered by a very determined Monaleen defence in what were extremely blustery conditions. In the second half Monaleen found their feet by spreading the ball wide and using the full width of the pitch. Their tactics paid off with a goal by Ella Hession in a goal mouth scramble. After a tough encounter, in not ideal conditions, the sides finished Ballyboden 5 Monaleen 3 when Skills Bonus Points were included. Many thanks to Ballyboden for the game and the after match hospitality.

Unfortunately Limerick were beaten by Galway in the Intermediate Camogie Final, but nevertheless a great day was had by all.

U11 Blitz Crecora

On Sunday the 21st October we played a blitz in Crecora. This was an invitational event and thank you to the organizers.

Mungret St Paul’s: This was a very tough game. As the game went on the team really got stuck in. The second half was more in our favour but without scoring. Great performance from the mid field in clearing the lines.

Crecora: We took the lead but went down by two goals as Crecora scored two easy goals from outfield. The girls really progressed in this second game with all the players showing skill and a special mention to our top player of the day Emma O Donoghue who commanded midfield and was the main driving force behind the girls who all responded to Emma and her skills.

Treaty Gaels: This was a very skilful game where every bit of skill was needed by both teams. A draw was a fair result - a goal apiece. All of the girls rallied to get a result and were rewarded at the end of this very tough blitz and many of the girls only played with each other for the first time today. Well done all and thank you to the parents for transport and also to John Rea for the pictures and to Nicola from  www.recipe4success.ie   for the snacks on the sideline.

Well done girls on a great performance.

Blitz in Cappamore in Blistering Heat
Our U10s had a great day in Cappamore on Sat May 26th. The weather was fantastic with lots of camogie played and fun had. Below is the team of young talented players, with a not so young but nonetheless talented coach Julian, who looked after them on the day.

Thanks also to John Rea for taking these great photos - enjoy the slide show.

Match Report v Mungret

19 players turned up for a Go Game match in Mungret last Tuesday May 15. This was a great turnout and thanks to all the parents who made the extra effort to arrange for their girls to be at the match. We had a good hard match with Mungret doing most of the pressing early on. By half time Monaleen needed a lift and a good response from the girls in the 2nd half saw a much improved performance with Monaleen being the better team in that period. The girls are improving with every game and with a blitz in Cappamore this Saturday 26th (see Calendar on website), the girls will be well drilled when they take part in the annual U10 county blitz in Newcastlewest on Sunday June 10th with over 300 girls playing from all over the county.

Team: Ciara McDonnell, Mia O'Halloran, Roisin D'Arcy, Fiona Gleeson, Charlie Drury, Grace Butler, Francesca Kearns, Susan D'Arcy, Aine Gahan, Emma Rae, Laura Burke, Bailey McNamara, Lucy D'Arcy, Ali Power, Aoife Nelligan, Grace Clohessy, Aoife Doyle, Sarah Sheahan, Clodagh Power.

Go Game Blitz
We had our first Go Game blitz of the season in Monaleen on Sat 28th April 2012. The weather was cold but thankfully dry. We had 4 teams visiting us from Adare, Croagh/Kilfinny, Patrickswell and Templeglantine. We also had 2 Monaleen teams. A great day was had by all and there were some very close matches with great effort from all teams. A big thanks to those who contributed to making sandwiches and other goodies,  and thanks to those who helped handing out teas and coffees and thanks to everyone who helped organise the event and help setup the pitches on the day. A big thanks to the club for allowing us to use the clubhouse and main pitch. And thanks to those who helped clean up afterwards.

Here are some photos from the day - thanks to John Rea official team photographer!
