Camogie U11 Blitz

On Sunday the 21st our u 11s played a blitz in Crecora. This was an invitational event and thank you to the organizers.

The first game we played Mungret St Paul’s  was a very tough game and we lost that by 3 goals as the game went on the team really got stuck in as the second half was more in our favor but without scoring. Great performance from the mid field effort in clearing the lines.

The second game against Crecora was also a loss after taking the lead we went down by two goals as Crecora scored two easy goals from outfield. The girls really progressed in this second game with all the players showing skill and a special mention to our top player of the day Emma O Donoghue who commanded the mid field and was the main driving force behind the girls who all responded to Emma and her skills.

Our third and Final game was against the treaty Gaels this was a very skillful game where every bit of skill was needed by both teams this resulted in a draw of a goal apiece. All players gave their all after playing three game one after the other they really gave their all in the last game. All of the girls rallied to get a result and were rewarded at the end of this very tough blitz and many of the girls only played with each other for the first time today. Well done all and thank you to the parents for transport and also to John Rea for the pictures and to Nicola from   for the snacks on the sideline.

Monaleen 11-5 Cappamore 0-0

The U12’s started their championship campaign with an away match in Cappamore on Saturday morning. A pointed free from Aine Doyle followed quickly by a Taine Amodeo goal set the pattern for this match. 3 goals from Aisling Kennedy and 2 from Emma Donohoe killed the match as a competitive fixture. With Monaleen scoring at will Ruth Heavey, Kerri O Donoghue and Taine 1-1 completed the scoring for the first half.

The second half was more competitive and Katie Golden, Aine Nelligan & Tara Hogan had more work to do in defence.  Kealin Corcoran was on the scoreboard with a goal along with a great strike from Ruth. Points from Aine Doyle, Aisling & Ruth completed the scoring.

Monaleen 3-4 Ceapagh Rua 2-8

The U16’s first match of the championship was always going to be a close affair and so it proved with just 1 point separating the teams after a very entertaining game. Monaleen started brightly with 1-2 on the scoreboard before Ceapagh Rua got their first point. Caoimhe Lyons playing at left corner was causing the opposition plenty of problems. The Monaleen backs dominated in the first half and conceded only one point from play. Half time Monaleen led 1-4 to 0-4. The second half followed a similar pattern with Monaleen ahead by 5 points going into the last quarter. An injury to outstanding corner back Emer Nelson upset the balance of the defence enabling Ceapagh Rua to score 2 late goals for a single point victory. With only 1 sub available on the night the Monaleen  girls put up a skilful and determined performance throughout. A victory over Crecora is required from the next match to ensure passage to the semi-final.

Team: Claire Kelly; Sinead Quinn; Emer Nelson; Les Ivors, Grainne Fullen; Laura Enright; Niamh Doyle; Nicole Sheehan; Aoife Hogan, Ciara Wiley; Shalini Kujur; Sinead Quinn; Laura Griffin; Aisling Doyle; & Caoimhe Lyons (3-4)

Monaleen 3-3 Killeedy 4-9

Our U14s started their championship with a very good performance against a strong Killeedy side at Monaleen on Tue 21st.  We were forced into defensive mode for much of the first half but managed to keep the goals out with a great performance by Robyn McDonnell between the sticks. Killeedy did manage to pick off some very good early points and build up a lead which was always going to be difficult to overcome. We did manage to stay in touch with strong displays from Aisling Doyle (0-1) at half back, Caoimhe Lyons at half forward (2-2) and Taine Amodeo  (1-0) who scored a great goal from midfield, but Killeedy’s strength in depth told out in the end. Nonetheless some very encouraging signs and next up is Ballyagran on Tue 28th.

U12 Monaleen Red team v Treaty Gaels

In the Go Games Series, the U12 Red team played away to Treaty Gaels on Thursday in glorious sunshine. We had 11 players and all played. Plenty of water was taken on board and a pattern quickly emerged of Monaleen taking the game to the Gaels. By half-time Monaleen were on top with strong performances across the pitch. The 2nd half continued in the same vein as Monaleen dominated midfield, eventually coming out on top. Top scorers for Monaleen: Aine Doyle 2-2, Orlaith Gallagher 2-0 and Taine Amodeo chipped in with a score. Other players to perform strongly were Aine Nelligan who was excellent at centre back and  Tara Hogan.

The referee had stern words for the players at full time for disputing decisions during the game. Respect for the referee is an important part of the game and all Monaleen players need to remember this and to concentrate on playing the game to the best of their ability.

Team: Emma Donohoe; Aine Nelligan; Caoimhe Lane; Aine Gleeson; Tara Hogan; Maeve Rea; Rachel Hinchy; Ellen Regan Magnier; Orlaith Gallagher; Taine Amodeo; Aine Doyle.
